SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket aborts triple satellite launch at last minute

A SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket carrying three satellites aborted an attempted launch at the last minute late Friday (April 28).  The heavy-lift Falcon Heavy rocket was 59 seconds from lifting off at 8:26 p.m. EDT (0026 GMT) from Pad 39A of NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida when SpaceX called an abort. The rocket was about to enter its startup phase, but did not ignite its 27 first-stage engines, nine each on its three core boosters. Adobe Photoshop Review 2023

Adobe Photoshop was first released all the way back in 1990 and since then its become one of, if not the most well-known pieces of software available. Even non-photographers know what Photoshop is, or have at least heard of it.  To put it simply — if you have a photo to edit, Photoshop can do it. It’s one of the most powerful image editing software out there and there really isn’t much it can’t do. Although it doesn’t boast the organization and cataloging capabilities of Lightroom, when it comes to…

SpaceX Dragon debris lights up sky in bright fireball over western US during reentry (video)

A piece of a SpaceX spacecraft made a dramatic but harmless re-entry over the western United States late Thursday (April 27). The “trunk” section of a SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft broke into shimmering streaks over a swath of states, such as Colorado and Arizona, at about 4:52 a.m. EDT (0952 GMT). That equates to 1:52 a.m. or 2:52 a.m. locally depending on location. The “trunk”, used to launch the NASA Crew-5 astronaut mission to the International Space Station in October 2022, is an unpressurized cargo hold that supports Crew Dragon during the…

Hubble telescope eyes galactic site of distant star explosion (video)

The famed Hubble snagged the clearest picture yet of a faraway galaxy while hunting for evidence of a supernova. The area, imaged by the Hubble Space Telescope, came into the limelight three years ago after astronomers witnessed the violent death of one of its massive stars just days after it ran out of fuel and exploded into a supernova. The fresh, face-on image showcases the distant UGC 678 galaxy, which lies 260 million light-years from Earth in the constellation Pisces. While astronomers know very little about the galaxy’s formation and…

Europe’s JUICE Jupiter probe has an antenna glitch in deep space

Europe’s flagship Jupiter mission is struggling to unfurl an antenna in deep space. The Jupiter Icy Moons Explorer or JUICE spacecraft has a stuck antenna on one of its instruments, European Space Agency (ESA) officials reported Friday (April 28). The instrument is designed to penetrate the icy surface of Jupiter moons using radar, to seek signs of habitable conditions for life in the waters beneath. “A matter of millimeters could make the difference to set the rest of the radar free,” ESA officials wrote in an update (opens in new…

Curiosity rover on Mars gets a brain boost to think (and move) faster

NASA’s Curiosity Mars rover will soon race over the surface of the Red Planet more quickly thanks to a new upgrade.  The software update aboard the Curiosity rover, completed on April 7, brings around 180 improvements to the robot, the most significant of which are boosted driving capabilities that will also reduce the wear and tear on Curiosity’s wheels.  Curiosity, which has been exploring Gale Crater on Mars since August 2012, went into hibernation between April 3 and April 7 to receive the upgrade. The software boost will assist Curiosity…

Russia agrees to stay aboard International Space Station through 2028

Russia’s departure from the International Space Station (ISS) program isn’t so imminent after all. Last year, shortly after Russia invaded Ukraine, Russian space officials said the nation would leave the ISS partnership sometime after 2024, so it could focus on building its own outpost in low Earth orbit. That vague departure date left open the possibility that Russia would actually stay aboard for a few more years — and that’s exactly what’s going to happen, we learned today (April 27). “Russia has confirmed it will support continued station operations through…
