SpaceX fires up giant new Starship booster ahead of test flight (video)
SpaceX’s next Starship rocket just took a big step toward flight. The Starship first-stage prototype known as Booster 9 conducted a static fire test today (Aug. 6), briefly igniting its 33 Raptor engines while anchored to the orbital launch mount at SpaceX‘s Starbase site in South Texas. Not all of the engines performed perfectly; four of them shut down prematurely, SpaceX representatives said during a webcast of today’s test. But 29 out of 33 isn’t bad, and both Booster 9 and the orbital launch mount emerged from the test in…

Read MoreGiant ‘bubbletrons’ shaped the forces of the universe moments after the Big Bang, new study suggests
The extremely early universe featured the most cataclysmic, transformative and energetic events that ever occurred. Driving these energies was the expansion of the cosmos and the resulting fragmentation of the fundamental forces of nature. And in that fragmentation, massive bubbles may have emerged and collided with each other, powering up energies that would put to shame even our most advanced human-made particle accelerators, new research published June 27 on the preprint database arXiv suggests. Those awesome energies could have flooded the universe with dark matter particles, microscopic black holes, and much more, the researchers wrote.…

A number of military leaders around the world have expressed concerns to US officials over the dominance and control of SpaceX founder Elon Musk over satellite internet, according to a new report. Over the past decade Musk’s SpaceX has changed the launch industry with its reusable Falcon 9 rocket. The company has pressed this advantage to establish itself as the leading player in satellite internet through Starlink. There are currently more than 4,500 Starlink satellites in orbit, accounting for more than half of all active satellites. The constellation may grow…

China has been testing out a new engine designed to power a rocket to take astronauts to the moon. The kerosene fuel and liquid oxygen rocket engine was fired at a test stand near Xi’an, Shaanxi province, on July 22, meeting key technical requirements for its performance. Footage shows orange flames and exhaust gasses and water vapor blasting from the stand down a ravine. The new rocket engine will power the new Long March 10 rocket being developed to launch crewed missions to the moon, according to the China Aerospace…

Whether you believe that we’re being visited by extraterrestrial voyagers from galaxies afar or are simply amused by the thought that these Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP) have traveled inconceivable distances only to play hide-and-seek with Earth’s easily-spooked inhabitants, there’s no doubt that the subject continues to spark furious interest and debate. As Capitol Hill hosted a hearing last month with whistleblowers and witnesses adamantly declaring that the government is concealing information from the public regarding alien intelligence, true believers and skeptics alike are voicing their opinions in no uncertain terms.…
